RT France challenges EU ban before court

PARIS — Kremlin-backed RT France has challenged before the EU’s general court the European ban imposed by the bloc’s leaders last week.

“RussiaToday (France) has challenged EU_Council decision and regulation of 1 March 2022 on the restrictive measures in view of Russia’s actions destabilizing the situation in Ukraine before EUGeneralCourt,” the general court announced on Twitter today.

Last Wednesday, the EU officially banned RT, formerly known as Russia Today, and Sputnik, in a move meant to crack down on Russian disinformation amid Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine. Both Russian media outlets are no longer available on online platforms including Facebook, YouTube, TikTok and Twitter.

Since then, RT France’s President Xenia Fedorova had made the rounds of French media to criticize a decision that, she says, amounts to censorship.
