Liz Truss names Thérèse Coffey new UK health chief

LONDON — New U.K. Prime Minister Liz Truss appointed her close confidante Thérèse Coffey as health secretary.

Coffey has been a long-standing ally of Truss and was a key supporter of her Conservative leadership campaign.

The former work and pensions secretary will face pressure to reduce waiting lists in hospitals in the wake of the COVID pandemic and to fix the struggling social care regime.
