Qualcomm made two major announcements today. In the first announcement, the president of the company revealed OnePlus as the first company that will implement a 5G smartphone with the Snapdragon X50 modem. On the other hand, the company made the second announcement in which it introduced gaming-based Snapdragon 675 chipset with new CPU cores. The new Snapdragon 675 chipset is an improved version of Snapdragon 670.

The most significant update that has been made to the processor is the Kryo 460 cores. Both Snapdragon 670 and 675 chipset are based on Cortex-A76 which favors performance and increases the capability to reach up to 2 GHz speeds. Snapdragon 675 chipset has the same ISP and the GPU that was found in 670, which are Spectra 250 and Adreno 612.

The all-new gaming based chipset will have a number of gaming optimizations, and these will include engines like Unity, Unreal, Messiah, NeoX. The chipset will also support various popular tools and APIs including Vulkan, OpenGL 3.2, OpenCL, and Snapdragon profiler.

Adding more to the improvement part, the camera capabilities of the chipset have been boosted to support triple cameras up to 16 MP (or a single shooter with 25 MP sensor). The changes can be noted when it comes to taking pictures with the all-new multi-core AI Engine that promises to deliver up to 50% overall improvements.

For all the manufacturers that are willing to use Snapdragon 675 in their devices, the chipset will support Quick Charge 4+ technology.

Talking about the connectivity part, the chipset will have Bluetooth 5, Dual VoLTE, Dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 ac with MIMO 2×2, all the popular location-based platforms and Cat.12 download speeds up to 600 Mbps.

As of now, the platform is available to OEMs and will get to the hands of the consumers in early 2019.
